It
is said that the greatest wealth is health, but, unfortunately, to keep a good
health in busy times, that we all living in, is the biggest challenge these
days. Our health is deteriorating as fast as we are moving ahead. Maintaining
good health is just not a matter of getting away with disease and illness
rather it is much to do with overall quality of life.
Often
used synonymously with health is the word ‘Wellness’ which is more to do with
the attitude towards health that one carries be it mental, social, emotional
and spiritual. Therefore, achieving good health and wellness are equally
important.
Globalization
might have made our lives easier and simpler but, not in the case of health.
The biggest disease, of being ‘Busy’ has led to many lifestyle diseases like diabetes,
hypertension and so on. In developing countries like ours, the risks of illness
and death still have a connection with the traditional lifestyles mostly
because of poor sanitation, poor nutrition, personal hygiene, improper
immunization etc.
Public Health Insight is an effort to create
awareness about various public health concerns that are prevalent in today’s
world. I will try my best to bring forth an insight into policies and strategies
for their management at the national and global level. Also, the lessons learnt
from the outcome of successful implementation of these policies.
I
would like to sum up the essence of my blog in the words of Kofi Annan:
“It is my aspiration that health will finally
be seen not as a blessing to be wished for, but as a human right to be fought for.”
